General
How can I pay for my orders or membership?
We accept payment by Visa, Mastercard or Switch cards.
We accept payment by cheque in Pounds Sterling, US Dollars or Euro currency. Your cheque should be made payable to Portland Customer Services.
Sterling cheques must be drawn on UK banks. US Dollar cheques can be drawn on US or UK banks.
Euro currency cheques can be drawn on any EU country’s banks.
We can also accept payment of our invoices by bank transfer. Bank transfer details will be supplied with our invoices.
Members who hold a UK bank account can pay next years membership fees (not other orders) by direct debit - details will be sent with renewal letters.

Subscription period: January to December.
Anytime start subscriptions are available for the Handbook of Practice Management online, Automotive Engineer and World Water.
Payment: Please make cheques payable to PORTLAND CUSTOMER SERVICES. Sterling cheques must be drawn on UK banks, US Dollar cheques can be drawn on either US or UK banks and Euro cheques must be drawn on EU banks.
Terms: Cash with order or against pro-forma invoice. Payment may be made by bank transfer provided our reference number is quoted. Please contact us for details.
Prices are applicable in the following regions:

US Dollars ($) - for North, Central, South America and Canada
Sterling (£) - for UK and rest of world

Delivery policy
All journal issues are delivered to the shipping address upon publication. Issues being dispatched to an address within the UK are delivered by Royal Mail and those being sent to the Rest of the World are delivered by DHL. The standard delivery times are listed below (based on working days):

Claims: Claims for non-receipt must be made within 3 months of publication. Claims received after this period will not be fulfilled.
Cancellations: Accepted less single-issue price for issues already sent except Royal Society - in case of genuine error, reported within 30 days from receipt of first issue, any money paid will be refunded in full and the subscription cancelled. After this time no refund allowed.
Additional Postage for Priority Delivery Aims: Additional postage can be paid to ensure the following delivery aims for Western Europe, 2-3 days and Rest of World, 5-7 days.
Continuity: To ensure continuity of despatch of journals each year, payment should reach PCS by 1 December. Agents and booksellers are responsible for the continuity of orders placed through them.
Terms of Online Access: Generally Institutional prices for online subscriptions allow online access by authorized users on one contiguous campus community and network. Full terms and conditions of usage are available on the relevant journal website.
Usage Statistics available: Journals hosted on the Portland Customer Services Sirius platform are COUNTER compliant; all library usage reports conform to COUNTER code of practice. Journals published by Portland Press, IWA Publishing, Expert Information, and Antiquity Publications are hosted on the Sirius platform.
Value Added Tax (VAT): Our VAT number is GB 523 2392 69.
VAT on Electronic Journals: Will be charged where applicable at 20% of the subscription price.
VAT on Combined Journals: Will be charged where applicable at 20% on a percentage of the total price. The relevant percentages differ according to the individual publisher and title. The amount of VAT is shown on the online price list.

Pay per view service
If you would like to access a paper to which you do not have access/a subscription you can view and download the PDF of the paper using the pay per view option.
Access to the full text of some online journals hosted by Portland Customer Services is restricted to institutional subscribers. This is done by restricting the IP (Internet) addresses that are able to access the full journal. If you already have a subscription to the journal you can use the IP address registration form to register your IP addresses for access.
To access a paper on a pay per view basis from a Portland Press journal simply browse the relevant journal archive from the links below and select the paper of your choice. When you are prompted for your username and password, press cancel and the pay per view options will be displayed.
To purchase eProduct articles from IWA Publishing journals simply browse the relevant journal archive from the links below and select the paper of your choice. Add the full text article to your shopping cart by clicking the button at the bottom of the abstract file.
To access a paper on a pay per view basis from Antiquity simply browse to the journal website then select the paper of your choice. Click on the link "Access this article" and then click on "view and download the PDF " in the Non-subscribers section of the next page and the pay per view options will be displayed.
