The Biochemist is the essential read for life scientists. Distributed to around 6500 members of the Biochemical Society throughout the world, it is one of the most highly-respected life-science association magazines in the country.

The Biochemist is posted to members six times a year and is kept for reference by about 70% of members (2001 survey). In the same survey, it was found that 98% of members read the magazine. A substanial number of copies have more than one reader, taking the estimated total readership to 15,000. Since 1997, The Biochemist has also been available to non-members and libraries via subscription.

The Biochemist contains a mix of feature articles on matters of general scientific interest, letters, book reviews, meeting reports, careers information, policy issues, science education updates, equipment news and literature reviews.

It is backed by a sister publication, Biochemist e-volution, which is a daily news service for life scientists containing science news, job adverts, training dates, diary of events, marketplace, member news, grants/bursary information and the magazine archive.

With the membership of the Biochemical Society comprising a mixture of biochemists, molecular biologists, cell biologists, neuroscientists, pharmacologists and more, the overall composition of The Biochemist and Biochemist e-volution is designed to cater for the eclectic mix of highly qualified individuals in both industry and academia.
