Following publication of the revised Model code of safe practice: Part 17, Volume 2: Well control during the drilling and testing of high pressure high temperature wells last year, the Energy Institute is pleased to announce the publication of two additional volumes to Part 17, covering well planning and well completions and interventions.
These new additions to Part 17 were commissioned in response to the requirements of the UK industry for the Model Code to include two separate publications for well planning and completions and interventions in High Pressure, High Temperature (HPHT) environments.
Volume 3: Well completions and interventions provides guidance on safe practice for those planning and managing completion and intervention operations in HPHT wells. Its contents are wide ranging and include: details of working practices, design and equipment, fluids and fluid chemistry, materials, perforating, sand control, workovers and wireline, coiled tubing practices and most importantly, well control. In addition, a useful common completion risks listing is included as well as competence and training for associated personnel.
All three volumes of Model code of safe practice in the petroleum industry: Part 17 aim to assist the process of identification and assessment of risk and risk mitigation for HPHT well operations during the entire well lifecycle. The publications also incorporate information derived from recent operational experience.
